Appalachian Trail in New Jersey
One of the best NJ hiking trails is the Appalachian Trail. This trail runs for over 70 miles through the northwest section of NJ and is perfect for those who love a challenge. Experienced hikers will enjoy the rocky terrain and stunning views, while beginners can take their time and enjoy the scenery at a slower pace. New Jersey’s section of the Appalachian Trail includes forests, a boardwalk over wetlands, walking through a cow pasture, and many other interesting features. Hikers can day-hike, backpack overnight or complete the entire section in 4-7 days.

NJ Hiking at Round Valley Recreation Area
Round Valley Recreation Area is a great place explore the outdoors in New Jersey. While Round Valley may be better known for boating and trophy trout fishing, the state park has a number of miles of interesting trails to hike. The Water Trail, the Cushetunk Trail, and the Campsite Trail provide hiking options from short, easy walks to a 16-mile out-and-back hike. Forests, great views of the reservoir and wildlife spotting opportunities all abound at Round Valley.
Round Valley is also a great place to backpack and camp at its wilderness campsites on the far side of the lake. This state park is a beautiful place to visit and explore. I hope you enjoy your Round Valley hiking adventure.

NJ Hiking at Merrill Creek Reservoir
Merrill Creek is a great place to hike and explore. The scenery is beautiful and there are many different trails to choose from. In addition to hiking, Merrill Creek is a great place to boat (electric motors only), kayak, canoe, and fish.
Merrill Creek offers a variety of hiking trails including short loops to a bird blind, out-and-back hike to a levy on the reservoir, and full perimeter hikes around the lake which are from 6 to 7.5 miles. One of our favorite NJ hiking trails in the perimeter trail at Merrill Creek and we have hiked it in every month of the year. This reservoir has been the home for at least one nesting pair of eagles, which can often be seen while visiting.
Merrill Creek is a great place to visit for all ages and can be enjoyed all year round. Merrill Creek is also a great place to take your dog for a walk. Dogs are allowed on most trails. Merrill Creek is also a great place to take your camera and take pictures.

The Ken Lockwood Gorge Wildlife Management Area is a great place to hike and explore. There are many different trails to choose from, including the Ken Lockwood Gorge Trail, the Columbia Trail, and the Highlands Trail. The scenery is beautiful and the views are stunning. The highlight of the area is hiking near the river, which looks like its right out of the Adirondacks. The trails are Ken Lockwood Gorge are mostly level and easy to navigate for all ages.
Hiking at Ken Lockwood Gorge is a great way to get some exercise and enjoy the outdoors.
